This homemade apple pie recipe features a deliciously flaky crust covering a filling made from fresh, flavorful apples.

The recipe begins with preparing dough for the crust, which is rolled out and placed in a pie plate.

It is then filled with a mixture of thinly sliced ​​apples, sugar, cinnamon and other ingredients that enhance the flavor of the apples.

Follow this step-by-step recipe. It’s an excellent option for the Christmas holidays.

Ingredients for homemade apple pie

Pie crust ingredients: 2½ cups wheat flour, 1 teaspoon salt, 1 teaspoon sugar, 1 cup cold butter, cut into small cubes, 6-8 tablespoons cold water.

Filling ingredients: 6-7 apples (variety of your choice, such as Granny Smith or Fuji), washed, peeled and thinly sliced, ¾ cup sugar.

You also need: 2 tablespoons of wheat flour, 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon, ¼ teaspoon of ground nutmeg (optional), 1 tablespoon of lemon juice and 2 tablespoons of butter.

For the glaze (optional): ½ cup confectioners’ sugar (powdered sugar), 1-2 tablespoons milk, ¼ teaspoon vanilla extract (optional).

Prepare the crust

To make the pie crust, mix the flour, salt and sugar in a large bowl.

Add the cold butter and, using a pastry cutter or two forks, fold it into the flour mixture until it has a coarse crumb texture.

Add the cold water, a tablespoon at a time, and mix with a fork until the dough begins to come together. Don’t add too much water. The dough should be wet enough to form a ball, but not sticky.

Divide the dough into two parts, form two flat discs and wrap them in plastic wrap. Refrigerate for at least one hour.

In a large bowl, mix together the apples, sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg (optional) and lemon juice. Stir until the apples are well coated.

Preheat the oven to 425°F.

Remove one of the dough discs from the refrigerator and, on a floured surface, roll it out into a circle large enough to cover the bottom and sides of a pie pan.

Place the rolled out dough in the pie pan.

Add the apple mixture to the pie pan, spreading it evenly.

Place small dollops of butter on the apples.

Take the second disk of dough out of the refrigerator and roll it out in a circle to cover the pie. You can make a full sheet or a do a lattice, whichever you prefer.

Seal the edges of the top crust with the bottom crust and make small openings in the top so steam can escape while baking.

Bake the pie in the oven for about 45-55 minutes or until crust is golden brown and apples are tender.

If you are glazing the pie, mix the ingredients in a small bowl.

Drizzle the glaze over the pie once it has cooled slightly.
