NOTHING LIKE THIS HAD BEEN SEEN IN OVER 100 YEARS! Historic rains cause dangerous flash flooding. There were multiple rescues and total chaos in parts of Missouri and authorities warn that it will continue to rain for at least a few more hours.

On Tuesday morning, first responders and rescue teams in Missouri responded to multiple emergency calls to rescue people who were trapped in their homes and vehicles after heavy rains caused flash flooding in St. Louis and other parts of the state.

Thunderstorms hit the St. Louis metro area in what officials have labeled «historic rains,» overwhelming the previous record of 6.85 inches of rain on August 20, 1915!

“Historic rainfall of 6 to 10 inches has caused widespread flash flooding and numerous road closures in the greater St. Louis area this morning. The rain will continue for the next several hours before tapering off at 10 a.m.,” tweeted the NWS office in St. Louis.

More than 100 years have passed since the city experienced complete chaos due to widespread flash floods that, not only required multiple rescues, but also forced the authorities to close several of the roads in the area.

The weather mainly affected the states of Illinois and Missouri. «Dangerous life-threatening flash floods are being produced in central/eastern MO and SW IL,” NWS forecasters detailed. “Some locations may have a total of more than 12 inches,“ they added.

Due to the dangerous weather, the National Weather Service recommended that people look online for a place to shelter if they are “threatened by flooding” and under no circumstances should they drive “on flooded roads”. SEE VIDEO HERE

Meanwhile, the St. Louis Fire Department indicated that they had responded to at least “18 homes with substantial flooding/trapped occupants” and had to use boats to rescue six residents and six dogs from floods.

The Missouri Department of Transportation also reported that on Tuesday morning that a portion of Interstate 70 near the city of St. Peters had to be closed due to dangerous water levels, according to USA Today. Additionally, the State Highway Patrol asked drivers to avoid using interstate highways in St. Charles and St. Louis counties.

Officials said flash flood warnings will remain in effect until Tuesday afternoon. Isolated severe thunderstorms are also possible overnight in portions of Missouri and Illinois. SEE RESCUE VIDEO HERE Filed Under: Historic rains cause flash floods, multiple rescues and chaos in the US
