According to testimonies from desperate people inside the apartment, the three Hispanic sisters were trapped in the fire.

After battling the raging flames until they could clear a path to enter the house, rescuers went in for the sisters.

However, when the HFD entered the home, they could no longer save Ana Julia Melara Zelaya, Julita Adamari Melara Zelaya, and Eyelen Del Carmen Melara Zelaya.

Outside the house, in a state of shock, was Meybis Evelen Zelaya, the mother of the three sisters, who managed to escape the fire.

The fire may have been caused by an electrical fault

An older brother of the Hispanic girls managed to get out of the house but attempted to go back in when he saw the girls couldn’t escape.

The flames were so intense that the brother could not help Ana Julia Melara Zelaya, Julita Adamari Melara Zelaya, and Eyelen Del Carmen Melara Zelaya.

When the HFD was able to extinguish the fire and remove debris, Fire Marshals, responsible for investigating fires, arrived at the scene of the tragedy.

The raging fire may have been caused by a fault in the house’s electrical system, according to witnesses, but the official cause is not yet known.
