The suburb of Irondequoit, in northern New York State, was shaken by a tragic event this past weekend.
Four members of a family, including two young children, were found dead in the basement of their home.
The house was engulfed in flames in the early hours of Saturday, prompting emergency services to respond immediately in an effort to save those inside.
Authorities have stated that their deaths are being treated as homicides, ruling out the fire as the primary cause of death.

Irondequoit firefighters were alerted early Saturday morning to multiple fires at a residence in this Rochester suburb.
Upon arrival, emergency teams worked tirelessly to control the flames.

However, as they entered the house, they discovered a horrifying scene: the lifeless bodies of two adults and two young children.
The victims were identified as Famime Ubaldo, 30; Marangely Moreno-Santiago, 26; Evangeline Ubaldo-Moreno, 4; and Sebastian Ubaldo-Moreno, 2.

Irondequoit Police Chief Scott Peters described the scene as one of the most horrific he has witnessed in his 32 years of service.
«In nearly 32 years of doing this job, I’ve never seen anything like it,» Peters told AP.
«When innocent children are murdered, there’s no excuse for it,» he added, vowing to «bring these monsters to justice.»
The police chief’s statement suggests that the case is being treated with the utmost seriousness.

No arrests have been made so far, according to the authorities.

They are also awaiting the medical examiner’s determination to confirm the exact cause of death, although there are clear indications that the deaths were not caused by the fire.
Shane Metcalf, the Irondequoit fire chief, also expressed his dismay over the incident. He indicated that the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
