Hassan Alwaily got a plea deal
Paul Cusick, a Wayne County judge, stated during the sentencing hearing that it was «clear beyond any reasonable doubt» that Hassan Alwaily killed Balkees Sadek.
He expressed concern about the plea deal, which reduced the charge from first-degree murder to second-degree murder.
The sentencing agreement was set at 10 to 40 years in prison. The judge accepted it because the victim’s family wished to avoid a trial.
«I believe Mr. Alwaily should spend the full 40 years in prison,» remarked Cusick.
What happened to Balkees Sadek?
According to The Detroit News, it was Balkees Sadek’s sisters who found her strangled in her bathtub.
They also said that Hassan Alwaily had threatened to make her life «a living hell.»
His lawyer stated that his client understood that a trial would expose the family to another traumatic and horrifying experience.
Before receiving his sentence, he consistently refused to speak. Sadek’s father expressed his wish that the judge could sentence Hassan Alwaily to death.
