Due to strict Texas laws against abortion, the young woman traveled to Colorado to undergo the procedure.
Upon her return, her ex-partner confronted her, triggering a deadly argument.
Witnesses and police reports indicate that Thompson tried to strangle Gabriella in public.
However, she managed to break free and tried to flee, at which point he pulled out a gun and shot her in the head before leaving the scene.

Investigations revealed that Gabriella had previously reported Harold Thompson two months before the crime, accusing him of beating her while she was pregnant and attempting to strangle her.
Her sister, Mileny Rubio, told NBC 5 that the victim lived in fear: «He was so angry because she wanted to get away from him.»
The court imposed a life sentence without the possibility of parole, highlighting the brutality of the crime and the history of domestic violence.
