Griselda Blanco’s rise to infamy began in Medellin, Colombia, in 1943. Born into poverty, she witnessed violence and hardship at a young age.

By her teens, she was already involved in petty theft and is alleged to have been involved in the murder of a rival gang member.

In the 1960s, Griselda married Alberto Bravo, a fellow hustler, and together they fled to New York City. There, they established a connection with the mafia, using a clothing store as a front for cocaine smuggling.

However, their criminal activities attracted unwanted attention, forcing them to return to Colombia.

Back in Colombia, Griselda Blanco didn’t miss a beat. She and Alberto Bravo continued their drug trafficking operation, and Griselda’s reputation for ruthlessness grew.

She allegedly ordered the murders of rivals and even some of her own associates.

One infamous story claims she had Bravo killed after a falling out, a claim she always denied.

In 1974, facing pressure from Colombian authorities, Griselda Blanco made a crucial move. She relocated to Miami, Florida, a city that would become her new base of operations.

Miami, in the 1970s, was a hotbed for drug trafficking. Griselda Blanco saw an opportunity and seized it.

She exploited the city’s porous borders and established a sophisticated smuggling network, transporting cocaine from Colombia through the Caribbean to Miami.

She allegedly used a network of sicarios (hitmen) to eliminate competition and silence anyone who threatened her operation.

Law enforcement nicknamed her ‘The Black Widow’ due to the number of deaths attributed to her.
