  • The RNC considers resolution declaring Trump the presumptive nominee.
  • There is division among Republicans.
  • The primaries are set to continue through March.

In a surprising development, the Republican National Committee (RNC) has considered passing a controversial resolution.

This would designate former President Donald Trump as the «presumptive» presidential candidate in the middle of primary season.

The proposal, presented by an influential member of the RNC, would seek to grant Trump privileged access to economic resources, according to EFE.

In addition, it would allow him access to the party’s other logistical resources and strategic information, giving his campaign a significant advantage over his primary competitor, Nikki Haley.

This sort of declaration would represent a notable break with the party’s traditional neutrality during the primary process.

Despite this push in Trump’s favor, it is important to note that the former president would still face the challenge of securing a majority of the primary delegates.

He would not be the official Republican candidate for president without this.

The final decision will be made at the Republican National Convention scheduled for July in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where a majority of 1,215 delegates is required for the nomination.

So far, Trump has won 32 delegates, consolidating his lead after the Iowa caucuses last week and the New Hampshire primary held last Tuesday.

In comparison, Nikki Haley has obtained 17 delegates in the same period, according to EFE.

In response to this proposal, Olivia Perez-Cubas, spokesperson for Haley’s campaign, expressed her displeasure in a statement.

«Who cares what the RNC says? We’ll let millions of Republican voters across the country decide who should be our party’s nominee, not a bunch of Washington insiders,» she declared, according to The Associated Press.

RNC President Ronna McDaniel already declared last week in an interview with Fox News that Republicans should unite around the «eventual candidate, who will be Donald Trump.»

This has generated intense debate within the party.

It reflects the division between those who seek to consolidate Trump’s leadership and those who advocate for a more open and democratic selection process.

The situation is presented as a critical point in the Republican political landscape.

The strategy for the 2024 presidential election is being shaped by unprecedented decisions in the party’s recent history.

Donald Trump, testified on Thursday at his defamation trial regarding statements about writer E. Jean Carroll.

From the stand, he reiterated his denial of Carroll’s accusations of sexual assault, insisting that he never made harmful statements about her.

Judge Lewis Kaplan coordinated with Trump’s lawyer, Alina Habba, what questions could be asked of him.

This lawsuit arises from claims by Carroll, who maintains that Trump slandered her by denying knowing her and denying her accusations of sexual abuse in the 1990s.

In the current case, Trump is prohibited from mentioning a previous trial in which he was convicted last May.

On that occasion, a jury found him guilty of sexual abuse, defamation of Carroll and fined him $5 million.

Therefore, during his testimony, Trump was unable to reiterate his usual claims that he did not sexually assault Carroll.

He also wasn’t allowed to claim that he didn’t know her or that she lied about the rape accusation.

His lawyer, however, was able to inquire about his previous testimony in October 2022, to which Trump responded emphatically: «One hundred percent yes.»

The lawyer’s last question was blunt: «Did you ever instruct anyone to hurt Ms. Carroll in your statements?»

Trump responded:»No I just wanted to defend myself, my family and frankly the presidency.» In total, the Republican politician spent less than 10 minutes on the stand.
