On Tuesday afternoon, Georgia Governor Kemp made an announcement as both chambers of the Georgia State Legislature, led by Republicans, push identical resolutions.

They condemn President Biden’s border policy and support any efforts by Kemp to «allocate resources and assistance to the protection of the southern border.»

The Georgia Senate voted 31-15 in favor of the resolution on Monday. Likewise, a House committee approved its version on Friday.

This legislative coordination reflects the determination of the Republican Party in Georgia to address the issue of immigration and support Kemp’s agenda.

The sharply partisan resolutions were accompanied by Republican talking points that characterized anyone who crossed the border illegally as a criminal.

This even includes those who seek asylum due to persecution in their country of origin, while concluding that many immigrants are drug traffickers or potential terrorists.

The measures are advancing in an election year not only for president, but also for Georgia’s 236 legislative seats.

Kemp could choose to send more Georgia National Guard troops to the U.S.-Mexico border in Texas.

Garrison Douglas, Kemp’s spokesman, said 29 Guard members remain deployed performing missions that include aerial surveillance.

Kemp was one of 13 Republican governors who joined Abbott in Eagle Pass, Texas on February 4.

Abbott has been embroiled in a standoff with the Biden administration.

This arose after Texas began denying U.S. Border Patrol agents access to a park along the Rio Grande in the Texas border town.

Georgia Governor Kemp, who has a history of conflict with former President Donald Trump, continues to stay away from the Republican front-runner while endorsing other Republican presidential candidates and opposing Biden.

However, several other Georgia Republicans made clear in Monday’s debate that they want a return to Trump’s harsh border policies, The Associated Press.

Sen. Majority Leader Steve Gooch, R-Daholonega, issued a statement on the issue.

“We’re condemning President Biden that he took back and did a reversal in regard to what President Trump passed into law by executive order,” he said.

«This list of opportunities to secure the border thrown in the trash can by congressional Republicans is long,” said state Sen. Elena Parent, D-Atlanta.

«But none of this list compares to the most recent debacle we have witnessed. Republicans also made clear that the resolution was an election-year messaging exercise,» she added, according to the AP.

«Georgia senators, in particular, have debated a clutch of partisan measures in recent weeks aimed at pleasing Republicans and riling Democrats,» she said.

“We’re not going to pass a bill today that is going to move the needle in a large way,” Gooch said. «What we are going to do today is take a position on this issue.»

Georgia becomes at least the third Republican-led state to pass resolutions concerning the border in recent weeks.

They back calls to send more National Guard troops to support Abbott, after Oklahoma and Tennessee did the same.

It is a phenomenon that is gaining momentum and indicates clear support for Abbott’s proposed measures to address the situation at the southern border.

This coordinated response underscores that immigration will be a major issue in the 2024 presidential election.
