According to CNN, the prosecutor of the Ríos region, Tatiana Esquivel, told the media about Sebastián Piñera’s autopsy results.
«This autopsy was carried out during the night and today in the morning the relatives of former President Sebastián Piñera were informed of the result of this procedure,» she stated.
The prosecutor announced that hours later the former president’s family received the results of the autopsy.
«[W]e as the Prosecutor’s Office are also in a position to inform the community that the medico-legal cause of death of the former President is asphyxia by submersion,» she declared.
Chile mourns the death of Sebastián Piñera

After the death of Sebastián Piñera, President Gabriel Boric declared three days of national mourning.
Expressions of appreciation came from various parts of the globe and dozens of leaders offered their condolences and highlighted his importance.
The former two-time president of Chile (2010-2014 and 2018-2022) had a last good bye at a state funeral.
During his two terms, he had to face reconstruction after the 8.8 magnitude earthquake that hit the south of the country in 2010, among other problems.
‘I am very grateful… He gave us life back’

Sebastián Piñera oversaw the rescue of 33 miners after spending 69 days trapped in a mine in Atacama, the COVID-19 pandemic and the social outbreak of 2019.
“I am very grateful,” it was a pleasure to meet him,” declared Jimmy Sánchez, one of the 33 rescued miners after one of his most popular feats.
The former president’s body was taken to the Valdivia Legal Medical Service on Tuesday night, where an autopsy was performed.
On Wednesday morning he was received at the Santiago airport by Boric, who was accompanied by his widow, Cecilia Morel, and other relatives.
Sebastián Piñera was familiar with the area where the helicopter crashed

The investigation by the prosecutor’s office of the Los Ríos region, where the event occurred under bad weather conditions, includes expert reports on the aircraft.
They are looking for what exactly caused the helicopter to crash shortly after takeoff.
Sebastián Piñera knew the area well, since he had a summer residence there that he frequented to practice adventure sports.
Many people gathered at the door of his house in a wealthy neighborhood of the Chilean capital to pay tribute to him.

According to The Associated Press the other three passengers were able to save themselves.
Among these passengers was the sister of the former president of Chile who was the one who revealed his last words.
