While patrolling a beach on the west coast of Florida, a Clearwater Police officer took advantage of a female tourist.

Officer Nicolas Paloma’s superiors classified his actions as atrocious.

«It’s intolerable in this profession,» Clearwater Police Chief Eric Gandy said at a news conference.

According to authorities, Paloma detained a 32-year-old tourist on Sunday around 2:30 am for jaywalking at a roundabout near the beach.

The investigation was rapid and its results were devastating for the officer involved and the police department where he worked.

The officer allegedly detained the woman and told her she could avoid getting into trouble if she «did things» for him.

He drove her around in his patrol car and forced her to engage in sex acts.

«What this officer did is reprehensible. He is someone who swore an oath to uphold the law, not to break the law in an egregious manner by wearing a badge and uniform,” Gandy said.

Minutes after the incident, Clearwater Police were called due to an argument between two women at the victim’s hotel and that’s when the crime was reported.

Detectives from the Crimes Against Children and Families Unit began a criminal investigation into Paloma and 48 hours later the results were made public.

The suspect was arrested on Tuesday, October 17.

He was charged with sexual battery and false imprisonment and transferred to the Pinellas County Jail.
