Law enforcement carried out an operation in Los Angeles that resulted in the arrest of 23 members of the notorious ‘Florencia 13’ gang.
The raid, led by the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), focused on charges of drug trafficking, extortion, and multiple homicides, including the murder of a Latino police officer.
Of the 37 individuals charged, six were already in custody before the operation, which involved the search of 30 residences in South Los Angeles.
Authorities are continuing their search for the remaining eight suspects, some of whom may be hiding in Mexico, according to EFE.

The ‘Florencia 13’ gang, known for its violent history, has been operating in the city’s southern region for decades.
It gained national attention following the murder of Los Angeles Police Department officer Fernando Arroyos in 2022.

The young officer was killed while searching for a home with his fiancée, whom he planned to marry.
Three gang members pleaded guilty to their involvement in the robbery and shooting that ended Arroyos’ life.
The robbery was brutal: the criminals held the couple at gunpoint before opening fire, killing the officer with a single shot.
During the current investigation, police confiscated 21 pounds of methamphetamine, nine pounds of fentanyl, and 6.5 pounds of heroin.
They also seized 25 firearms, reflecting the seriousness of the Florencia 13 gang’s criminal activities.
U.S. Attorney Martín Estrada stated that these arrests demonstrate the authorities’ determination to combat criminal organizations.
Meanwhile, Akil Davis, Deputy Director of the FBI in Los Angeles, noted that ‘Florencia 13’ is known for its «barbaric tactics.»
These actions have resulted in several murders, highlighting the threat the gang poses to the community, according to EFE.
The operation was a joint effort by federal, state, and local agencies, showcasing effective coordination.
The impact of this raid is expected to be significant, though work remains in capturing the remaining fugitives.
