Heavy rainfall over the weekend in Moore, Oklahoma, led to serious flooding and a tragic outcome, with at least two fatalities confirmed.

According to the Moore Police Department, the bodies of an adult woman and a 12-year-old boy were found outside one of the vehicles swept away by the floodwaters.

The victims were traveling in a Jeep with three other individuals. One person was rescued alive from the same vehicle.

Police spokesperson Clint Byley confirmed the bodies were located after an extensive search carried out by emergency crews.

The intense rainfall caused at least two vehicles to veer off the road near the intersection of Southeast 12th Street and South Eastern Avenue.

Both vehicles ended up submerged after being carried off a bridge by fast-moving water, complicating rescue operations.

In addition to the Jeep, another pickup truck was caught in the flood, with two more individuals safely rescued from inside.

Authorities described these events in Oklahoma as an unprecedented weather phenomenon that triggered flash floods across multiple areas of the city.

“It was a historic event that severely impacted our roads and caused numerous water-related emergencies,” the local police stated on social media.

Authorities urged Moore residents to stay indoors, as many roads and neighborhoods were flooded beyond the sidewalks.

The Moore Police Department reported more than a dozen rescue operations of drivers trapped in their vehicles.

“Thanks to the swift support from neighboring agencies, we were able to handle multiple incidents at once,” officials said in an official statement.

The event occurred during a weekend marked by severe weather alerts affecting over 30 million people in the central United States.

Tornadoes, large hail, and strong winds also struck other states, worsening the region’s weather emergency.

Oklahoma was one of the hardest-hit states, with flash floods occurring in multiple towns.

Weather agencies had warned of possible excessive rainfall, prompting flood alerts in several counties.

In Moore, firefighters and emergency responders worked for hours to help drivers and residents trapped in flooded areas.

Images shared on social media showed streets completely submerged, with vehicles floating or partially underwater.

The community has begun organizing support for affected families, particularly those mourning the loss of loved ones.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and friends of the victims,” police said.

The disaster has once again highlighted the vulnerability of many urban areas to extreme rainfall.

Especially in places with insufficient infrastructure to handle large volumes of water in a short amount of time.

The city of Moore, previously struck by devastating tornadoes, is once again facing distress caused by extreme weather.

Meteorological experts explained that current climate patterns are favoring extreme events during this time of year, particularly in the “tornado alley” region that spans the central U.S.

As recovery efforts continue, local authorities are expected to assess material damages and reinforce emergency preparedness plans for future events.

The National Weather Service has kept alerts in place, forecasting more rain in the coming days—albeit less intense.

Moore residents are advised to stay informed through official channels and not attempt to cross flooded areas, even if the water appears shallow.

The tragic events in Moore serve as a sobering reminder of the dangers posed by flash floods and the critical need for preparedness in the face of extreme weather, ABC News reported.
