  • After Weeks of Devastation
  • Here are the Details

After three weeks of battling the flames, the fires that have ravaged Los Angeles County have been fully contained.

This was reported by the California Fire Department (Cal Fire).

The Palisades fire, the most destructive, consumed about 9,500 hectares, while the Eaton fire in Pasadena scorched 5,700 hectares.

Both were classified as «100% contained» on January 31, marking the end of one of the worst environmental crises in the state’s history.

Fires in Los Angeles Finally Contained

Since they began on January 7, the wave of fires forced the evacuation of more than 150,000 people and resulted in a tragic toll of at least 29 deaths.

Moreover, more than 16,000 structures were reduced to ashes, making this disaster one of the costliest in United States history.

Authorities are still searching for at least 14 missing persons, while the investigation into the causes of the fires continues.

Last weekend, a strong storm—the first in the region in eight months—brought heavy rains that helped extinguish the flames, allowing emergency teams to take full control of the fires.

Trump Claims Credit for «Water Flow» in California

Amid the tragedy, President Donald Trump took the opportunity to criticize the management of California Governor Gavin Newsom and claim credit for a supposed «water flow» that, according to him, helped contain the Los Angeles fires.

«Photo of the beautiful water flow I just opened in California. Today, 1.6 billion gallons and in three days, it will be 5.2 billion gallons.

Everyone should be happy with this hard-fought victory. If only they had listened to me six years ago, there would have been no fires!», Trump wrote on his social media platform Truth Social.

Last week, the president signed an executive order instructing federal agencies to increase the water supply in Southern California and the Central Valley to mitigate the effects of the fires.

Los Angeles Community Continues to Face Challenges Due to Fires

However, experts have pointed out that water management has little impact on the spread of wildfires in Los Angeles, which are primarily dependent on climatic factors such as drought and strong winds.

Despite the total containment of the flames, affected communities now face the challenge of rebuilding and recovery, in what is anticipated to be a lengthy process following the catastrophe.
