Sergio, the teacher, decides to implement a radical method to ignite the students’ curiosity and genius.

This character, inspired by true events, becomes a beacon of hope amidst adversity.

In the interview, Derbez revealed how he made the courageous decision to create this film, based on the story of the real-life teacher, Sergio.

He confessed that portraying a character who is still alive and can watch the movie was intimidating.

Derbez seized this situation as an opportunity to get closer to Sergio, learn from him, and capture the essence of his personality on the big screen.

«Sergio shared incredible things with us, and they are all reflected in the film,» commented Eugenio Derbez

The highlight of the film, according to Derbez, is the way it addresses the educational system in Mexico.

Unlike other films that sharply criticize the system, ‘Radical’ focuses on the dedication, passion, and ingenuity of the teacher.

‘This man, with sheer ingenuity, with pure love, with passion, manages to change the lives of all these children,’ said the actor.

Mexican movie enthusiasts will be able to enjoy ‘Radical’ in theaters across Mexico starting October 19, 2023.

Derbez also shared his experience of presenting ‘Radical’ at the prestigious Sundance Film Festival in early 2023.

The film was not only well-received but also garnered maximum recognition: it was named the Festival’s Favorite Film by the audience.

Despite the success and acknowledgment, Derbez remained humble when discussing possible nominations for awards, such as the Oscars.

He stated that, although such recognition would be significant, the most crucial thing for him is the message that the film conveys.
