In a joint operation by the Mexican Navy and Army, Alfredo Guzmán Beltrán, also known as ‘El Tito’ or ‘El Mochomito,’ was arrested this Friday.
He is the son of Alfredo Beltrán Leyva, alias ‘El Mochomo.’ This news was confirmed by journalist Azucena Uresti on X (formerly Twitter).
The arrest took place in the town of Mojolo, north of Culiacán, following a confrontation with hitmen that left several civilians dead and injured, according to local residents.
Initial reports indicate that ‘El Mochomito’ was injured and transported to a hospital under heavy security, as reported by El Financiero.

Shortly after, a Navy helicopter landed at the scene, suggesting his immediate transfer to Mexico City.
Alfredo Guzmán Beltrán is the son of Alfredo Beltrán Leyva, founder of the Beltrán Leyva cartel, a criminal group that emerged in the 1990s and operated until 2008.

His record includes previous arrests, such as his 2016 detention in Zapopan, Jalisco, where he was charged with kidnapping and possession of military-grade weapons.
One of the most notable incidents in his criminal history was his involvement in the 2016 kidnapping of his cousins, Iván Archivaldo and Alfredo Guzmán Salazar, sons of Joaquín ‘El Chapo’ Guzmán, in Guadalajara.

For this and other crimes, he served five years of a ten-year sentence and regained his freedom in September 2021.
Meanwhile, his father, ‘El Mochomo,’ was arrested in 2008 in Culiacán and extradited to the United States in 2014.
There, he was sentenced to life imprisonment for drug-related offenses.
This operation deals a significant blow to the Beltrán Leyva clan and underscores the ongoing efforts of Mexican authorities in targeting organized crime leaders.
