Efraín González Magaña, the main suspect in the stabbing, was arrested that morning.

He made no comment about the incident and was held in county jail on charges of attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon. His bail was set at $125,006.

Two days after the attack, on November 16, 2022, prosecutor Patrick Ferguson stated that the incident stemmed from Gonzales Magaña’s unfounded belief that his girlfriend was having an affair with the victim.

González’s defense focused on highlighting his good reputation, behavior, and service to the community since he moved there 20 years ago.

«He has significant ties to the community and all evidence indicates he has led a law abiding, peaceful life.,» attorney Brian Filter toold local media during his initial hearings.

The prosecutor’s response was emphatic.

«Given the unprovoked nature and extreme danger, and the fact that there were prior incidents expressing this unfounded jealousy, the defendant is a danger to the community, especially the cohabitant,» Patrick Ferguson stated.

Since then, Gonzáles pled guilty to attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon during his last hearing, held on April 27 at the East Fork Justice Court.
