In recent days, the name of Joaquín Guzmán Loera, better known as El Chapo, has once again been on everyone’s lips.

First, one of his sons, Ovidio Guzmán López, was ordered to be extradited to the US.

Days before, El Chapo’s wife Emma Coronel Aispuro was released after serving a prison sentence on various drug trafficking charges in the US.

Now, we remember the occasion when El Chapo left the mothers of Culiacán, Sinaloa, Mexico, without flowers on Mother’s day because of Edgar Guzmán López’s funeral.

On May 8, 2008, Edgar Guzmán López received a ‘surprise’ while he was at a shopping center in Culiacán, Sinaloa.

Several hitmen shot El Chapo’s son 500 times. Obviously, he was killed instantly.

Edgar was born on May 30, 1986, so he was just a few days away from turning 22 when he was viciously murdered.

His mother was Griselda Guadalupe López, who was tired of her children being labeled drug traffickers. He was married to Frida Muñoz and they had a daughter with the same name.

In addition to shooting him 500 times, it is said that the hitmen used a bazooka to kill Edgar Guzmán López.

After this terrible incident, the residents of Culiacán feared the worst, as it was believed that El Chapo would retaliate.

Edgar’s young widow identified her husband’s body and simply said that a group of hitmen had killed him.

Another version of the story says it was actually El Chapo’s men who killed him accidentally.

In addition to Edgar Guzmán López, two young men who accompanied him to the shopping center were also killed.

César Ariel Loera was his cousin and Arturo Meza Cázares was the son of Blanca Margarita Cázares, better known as La Emperatriz.

As mentioned earlier, one version of events indicates that El Chapo’s son was mistaken for a member of the Beltrán Leyva cartel.

As if that weren’t enough, there is a third theory that Edgar may have been mistaken for El Guacho and Joaquín Guzmán had ordered his killing.

Edgar Guzmán López was killed a couple of days before May 10, which is Mother’s Day in Mexico.

Overwhelmed by sadness, El Chapo did something that many people considered a momentous gesture.

The drug lord bought all of the roses in Culiacán for his son. It is said that there were more than 50,000.

Although it was never confirmed that El Chapo left the mothers of Culiacán without flowers on Mother’s Day, it’s a popular legend.

Some time later, singer Lupillo Rivera performed a song called 50 Mil Rosas, according to Vanguardia.

The song begins: 50 thousand red roses were sold in Culiacán, arriving on May 10 ready to celebrate, but a few days earlier, Edgar Guzmán was taken from us.

The pile of roses was not sent to any mother; they were all for a great man who was always respected; they gave them a farewell, the 50 thousand roses arrived.
