A 5.3 magnitude earthquake with its epicenter in Ciudad Altamirano, Guerrero, triggered the seismic alarm in various parts of Mexico City.

The tremor occurred at 13:03, according to the National Seismological Service (SSN), as announced on social media.

Although the quake was barely felt by most of the capital’s residents, the seismic alert prompted the preventive evacuation of several buildings.

Despite no reports of significant damage or severe impacts in Mexico City, the activation of the seismic alarm served as a reminder to the citizens of the importance of being prepared for potential emergencies.

The SSN reported that the earthquake’s epicenter was located 50 kilometers south of Ciudad Altamirano, Guerrero.

The coordinates were at latitude 17.92 and longitude -100.55, with a depth of 10 kilometers.

Ciudad Altamirano, situated in the Tierra Caliente region of Guerrero, is known for moderate seismic activity due to its proximity to the tectonic plates along the Pacific coast.

Despite the earthquake’s 5.3 magnitude, authorities reported no significant damage in Guerrero or nearby areas.

In Mexico City, though the majority of citizens did not feel the earthquake, the alarms went off in several areas, prompting preventive evacuations in office buildings, schools, and residences.

Evacuation protocols were swiftly implemented across various properties in the city, emphasizing the importance of preparedness in emergency situations.

Authorities in Mexico City, led by the Secretary of Comprehensive Risk Management and Civil Protection, confirmed that there were no major impacts on infrastructure nor any reports of injuries.

Nonetheless, they stressed the importance of remaining vigilant and following safety protocols in the event of future seismic activity.
