Magnitude 5 earthquake recorded in Oaxaca

El Universal reported that a magnitude 5 earthquake surprised the residents of a town in Oaxaca. This was confirmed by the Sismológico Nacional, revealing details of the event that woke up more than one individual in the Mexican state.

It was not necessary to activate the Seismic Alarm

Sasmex reported that the earthquake, despite having been classified as magnitude 5, did not require activation of the Seismic Alert since «the energy estimate in the first seconds did not exceed the pre-established levels,» according to El Universal.

The news was released on Twitter, alerting all residents of Matías Romero to take precautions: “EARTHQUAKE Magnitude 4.7 Loc 8 km east of Matías Romero, Oaxaca 08/22/22 07:34:43 Lat 16.86 Lon – 94.97 Pf 116 km.”

At one point the earthquake started with a magnitude of 4.7, but shortly after the Sismológico Nacional confirmed that it had increased to 5 but this did not cause the Seismic Alert to be activated, so far no material or human losses have been reported.

So far no damage of any kind has been reported after the earthquake in Oaxaca

It should be noted that the Coordinación Nacional de Protección Civil reported that it maintains communication with state and municipal agencies, as well as with the members of the Comité Nacional de Emergencia to assess the need for the area to be evacuated.
