A 6.5 magnitude earthquake shook Ciudad Hidalgo, Chiapas, on the morning of Sunday, January 5, as reported by the National Seismological Service (SSN).
The earthquake, recorded at 11:18 AM, raised concerns in the region, although it did not trigger a seismic alert.
A few minutes later, a second earthquake with a magnitude of 6.2 occurred off the coast of La Paz, El Salvador.
Specifically, it was located 29 kilometers southwest of Playa Costa del Sol.

Both events were felt in neighboring countries such as Guatemala and Nicaragua, raising the alert across the region.

The first aftershock had a magnitude of 4.0, while the most recent reached 3.8, all located in La Paz.
Despite the magnitude of the earthquakes, the General Directorate of Civil Protection in El Salvador reported that there is no risk of a tsunami in the Pacific.
The Ministry of Transport (VMT) in El Salvador also confirmed that no damage was reported on the road network in the Metropolitan Area of San Salvador.
Through its video surveillance system, authorities confirmed that the road infrastructure remained unaffected.
Meanwhile, the Emergency Operations Center was activated to coordinate any assistance to the public if necessary.
The tremors were also felt in Guatemala and Nicaragua, where some communities reported perceiving the movements.
In response, Mexican consular authorities in these countries recommended that Mexican citizens take precautions.
They also issued contact information to provide consular assistance in case of emergencies.
In Chiapas, social media users shared images of the impact of the earthquake.
At a supermarket in the municipality of Apopa, products fell from the shelves and the aisles were left in disarray.
