  • Asnubil Escobar was charged with DUI.
  • The Alexander family is devastated.

Excessive speed and alcohol allegedly led Asnubil Escobar to crash into a mother of three’s car, causing her tragic death, according to the Winter Springs sheriff.

Escobar, a waitress and manager of a restaurant in Sanford, was running late for work on Tuesday, May 21. Authorities presume she sped up her white Toyota and allegedly ran a red light to save time.

At that moment Tiffany Alexander, who was driving a white Honda with her nine-month-old and four-year-old daughters, was crossing the intersection at State Road 434 and Vistawilla Drive.

«Tiffany did nothing wrong. Tiffany was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time. And this is a case where something bad happened to a good person,» said Winter Springs Police Department Chief Matt Tracht during a press conference.

Her nine-month-old daughter suffered minor injuries and fainted after being extracted from the car. Her mother died upon arrival at the hospital, police said.

The first officers arrived at the scene at 10:00 a.m. Their investigation indicated that Escobar was driving over the 50 mph speed limit and her blood alcohol content exceeded the legal limit.

«I don’t know how she was driving at 0.38,» the police chief stated. The legal blood alcohol limit is 0.08.

During her interrogation, Escobar admitted to having consumed alcoholic beverages and explained that her last drink was around 1:30 a.m., nearly nine hours before the crash, according to the affidavit.

Despite her claims, Escobar was arrested and charged with four serious DUI offenses, including vehicular homicide, property damage, injuries and having a blood alcohol content of 0.08 or higher, the court report states.

Tiffany’s husband, according to the police chief, «is in shock. He lost his wife, and their three children no longer have a mother, so he will have to deal with that.»

The traffic accident remains under investigation. The only detainee awaits a court date while remaining in police custody.
