  • Donald Trump sues federal government over raid on his Florida home.
  • He claims his Fourth Amendment rights were violated.
  • Trump requested the appointment of a special master to review the documents.

On Monday former President Donald Trump filed a lawsuit to block the Department of Justice from reviewing the documents removed from his home, Mar-a-Lago, on August 8. The suit also requests a special master to review the seized documents and return anything not included in the court order, according to the Daily Mail and the EFE agency.

The search warrant showed that Trump took classified material from the White House to his residence. The order also pointed out the crimes he may have committed which include: violation of the Espionage Act, obstruction of justice and destruction of documents. The former president said his Fourth Amendment rights were violated by the seizure of certain documents, including two of his passports.

“Politics cannot be allowed to impact the administration of justice. President Donald Trump is the clear frontrunner in the 2024 Republican Presidential Primary and in the 2024 General Election, should he decide to run,” says the lawsuit filed by the former US president.

The suit also calls the raid “shockingly aggressive” and says that the action showed «no understanding of the distress that it would cause most Americans. Like all citizens, (Trump) is protected by the Fourth Amendment to the United States Constitution. Property seized in violation of his constitutional rights musty be returned forthwith,”

In his lawsuit, the former president argues that, «The government has long treated President Donald J. Trump unfairly.» He adds that the Justice Department and the FBI have treated Trump «differently than any other citizen,» according to the Daily Mail.

“Two years of noisy ‘Russian collusion’ investigations led to a Special Counsel’s finding of biased FBI agents and officials,” the suit says. It goes on, “Text exchanges between the lead agent (Peter Stzrok) and his paramour (Lisa Page) reflect their complete disdain and bias against President Trump and his supporters, while they were entrusted with probing the farcical Russian collusion claims.» Filed Under: Donald Trump Florida Raid

Trump insisted that they took documents that are protected by attorney-client privilege, passports and that they also opened his safe. He explained that the motion presented asks that the Department of Justice «immediately stop the review of the documents illegally seized from my house» and that a «special master» supervise the handling of the seized material. Meanwhile, the federal judge deciding whether to disclose the reasons why the FBI searched Mar-a-Lago reiterated Monday that he has an interest in publishing them but has not yet decided to do so.

In a document published this Monday, Judge Bruce Reinhart explained that he will wait for the text that ordered the Prosecutor’s Office to deliver before next Thursday, hiding the most sensitive data that may affect the investigation. Reinhart, who at the hearing last Thursday, in West Palm Beach, was inclined to publish the affidavit with sensitive parts redacted, said Monday that he will analyze the situation because it could result in the text being «meaningless» for the media that have requested disclosure.
