  • Harris’ campaign sees a second debate before the election as key.

In a move that has raised eyebrows, Donald Trump has rejected Kamala Harris’s proposal for a second presidential debate on October 23.

The vice president accepted CNN’s invitation to the meeting in Atlanta.

However, the former president said it was already too late, arguing that early voting had already begun in several states.

Harris’ campaign manager Jen O’Malley Dillon said a new debate would be a «unique opportunity» for voters to assess the candidates’ competing visions.

The Democratic campaign stressed that it would be «unprecedented» in modern history to hold only one debate before the presidential election, according to Efe.

Harris, confident after her victory in the first confrontation with Trump on September 10 in Philadelphia, expressed her willingness to meet again.

But Trump, speaking at a rally in Wilmington, North Carolina, declined the invitation, saying enough debates had already taken place and votes were being cast.

«I would love to, in many ways, but it’s late. The voters are already out there, and we have to move on,» Trump told his supporters.

Trump’s refusal has fueled speculation that he is wary of facing Harris again, especially after the vice president managed to unsettle him in their first meeting.

The electoral context is increasingly tight, and both candidates are fighting for votes in the key states that will decide the election:

Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin, Georgia, North Carolina, Arizona, and Nevada.
