As he closes in on the Republican presidential nomination, Donald Trump made a highly unusual stop on Saturday.

He decided to promote his new sneakers, with a unique design that caught people’s attention.

This launch took place at Sneaker Con, a convention that calls itself “The Greatest Sneaker Show on Earth.»

In his statements during the event, Trump showed confidence in the success of his new sneakers and what is expected from this launch.

According to The Associated Press, Trump was greeted both loud boos and cheers at the Philadelphia Convention Center when he unveiled what he called Trump’s first official shoe.

The shiny gold high-tops with an American flag detail on the back are sold as “Never Surrender High-Tops.”

They are priced at $399 on a new website that also sells other Trump-branded shoes and “Victory47” cologne and perfume for $99.

The situation got out of control when Trump posed with the new footwear and showed off the unique design.

The website says it has no connection to the Trump campaign, although Trump campaign officials promoted the appearance in online posts.

This unexpected foray into the world of sneakers came at a time of intense legal controversies for Trump.

Just one day before, a New York judge ordered Trump and his company to pay $355 million in fines.

This decision was reached after the judge found that the former president lied about his wealth for years, conspiring to deceive banks, insurance companies and others by inflating his wealth.

This comes after Trump was ordered to pay an additional $83.3 million to writer E. Jean Carroll.

He was found liable for attempting to damage her reputation after she accused him of sexual assault, the AP reported.

With the interest payments, Trump’s legal debts could now exceed $500 million, an amount it is not clear he can afford to pay.

Therefore, the sale of merchandise could be a way for him to pay these hefty fines.

Is it a clever move?

Attendees at Sneaker Con were younger and more diverse than Trump’s usual crowds, The Associated Press reported.

Trump’s campaign hopes to win over more young and minority voters in a likely rematch against the President Joe Biden in November.

This is not the first money-making venture Trump has announced since he launched his third campaign for the White House in 2022.

Last year, Trump reported making between $100,000 and $1 million from a series of digital trading cards depicting him.
