Several people were shot in Kansas City, Missouri, on Wednesday, February 14, after revelers gathered to celebrate the Super Bowl win with a parade.

The Chiefs’ were victorious against the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday, February 11.

Downtown Kansas City was a sea of red on Valentine’s Day as Chiefs fans celebrated their third Super Bowl title in five seasons with a parade that was interrupted by gunfire.

«We’re stacking up trophies,» linebacker Drue Tranquill said as he took the microphone from a reporter during Wednesday’s festivities.

They were celebrating the Chiefs’ comeback, an overtime victory of 25-22 over the San Francisco 49ers.

However, the celebration was overshadowed by a shooting that took place near the parade route as fans were preparing to disperse.

According to ABC 7, the shooting occurred west of Union Station, near the garage, authorities said.

Three suspects were detained after the shooting

ABC 7 reported that the police said three individuals were detained for investigation.

Authorities urged people to leave the area «as quickly and safely as possible» so that they could attend to the shooting victims.

According to EFE, at least one person died and nine others were injured in the shooting that occurred at the end of the Super Bowl celebration parade.

However, Fire Department Battalion Chief Michael Hopkins declined to make further comments and simply said that additional information would be released soon.

Authorities informed the press that two individuals were arrested as suspects in the Kansas City parade shooting.The suspects and many of those injured are juveniles.

Additionally, they urged fans to leave the area as quickly as possible so they could attend to the injured.

Around one million attendees were expected at Wednesday’s celebration parade, along with 600 law enforcement officers.

Authorities worked to ensure everyone dispersed safely

«We need people to exit the area as quickly and safely as possible and avoid the parking garage in order to facilitate treatment of shooting victims,» police said in a statement.

«Many of you have footage of many officers securing union station,» they added, according to CBS Sports.

«[T]hey are working to provide for the safety of everyone inside union station and expedite care of those injured,» they concluded.

Images of officers responding to the Kansas City parade shooting are circulating online.

Kansas Governor Laura Kelly was evacuated

Kansas Governor Laura Kelly, who was at the scene, released a statement on social media.

«I have been evacuated and am out of danger. I encourage everyone to follow the instructions and updates from @kcpolice. Please stay safe,» she wrote on X.

Several videos show the crowd panicking after the shots were fired as well as the police response.
