During the funerals held in Khan Younis this Saturday afternoon, the grief was inconsolable. «Omar is gone… I wish it had been me!» cried the brother of one of the victims through tears, reflecting the pain of thousands of families trapped in the conflict.
Israel has vowed to intensify its military offensive across the Gaza Strip with the goal of freeing hostages held by Hamas and establishing «security zones» under its control within the territory.
For the past six weeks, the country has maintained a total blockade on Gaza, preventing the entry of food, medicine, and other essential goods.
Humanitarian organizations have warned that the humanitarian situation is critical.

According to the UN, thousands of children are at risk of malnutrition, and most of the population can barely eat once a day due to the collapse of supply chains.
On Friday, Dr. Hanan Balkhy, director of the World Health Organization’s (WHO) office for the Eastern Mediterranean, asked the new U.S. ambassador to Israel, Mike Huckabee, to press the Israeli government to lift the blockade and allow humanitarian aid to enter.
“I would like him to come in and see the situation with his own eyes,” Balkhy stated.

In his first official appearance, Huckabee visited the Western Wall in Jerusalem, where he placed a handwritten prayer.
One that, according to him, was written by President Donald Trump.
The ambassador stated that his priority is to secure the release of the hostages.
Several hostages remain in the hands of Hamas.
Background of the Gaza War
The war between Gaza and Israel began on October 7, 2023, when militants led by Hamas launched an attack on southern Israel, killing around 1,200 people—mostly civilians—and kidnapping 251.
Since then, more than 51,000 Palestinians have died, the majority women and children, according to Gaza’s Health Ministry, which does not distinguish between civilians and fighters.
The conflict has reduced large parts of Gaza to rubble and destroyed almost its entire agricultural infrastructure. Nearly 90% of the population is displaced, living in makeshift camps or among ruins.
