Darvin Flores Caballeros, a 20-year-old Honduran from Virginia, was arrested in Florida after being accused of abandoning a newborn baby in the snow following a violent attack on the child’s mother.
The arrest took place on Thursday morning under an interstate fugitive warrant, according to authorities.
Flores Caballeros remains in custody in Florida, awaiting extradition to Virginia, where he faces multiple charges, as reported by Law&Crime.
The accusations include malicious wounding, strangulation, assault and domestic violence, petty theft, and two counts of child endangerment.
Protective Order Issued After Darvin Flores Caballeros’ Brutal Attack in Virginia
An emergency protective order has also been issued against him.
The incident that led to his arrest occurred on February 12 in Fairfax County, Virginia, according to El Tiempo.
An investigation revealed that Flores Caballeros allegedly attacked and strangled the baby’s mother.
During the assault, the woman accidentally dropped her 13-day-old infant.
Authorities stated that Flores Caballeros then took the baby and fled the scene on foot before police arrived.
The infant was later abandoned in a pile of snow.
A good Samaritan found the baby and promptly alerted authorities.
The baby’s mother was hospitalized with serious injuries sustained during the attack.
On February 20, the Walton County Sheriff’s Office in Florida received information regarding Flores Caballeros’ whereabouts in Santa Rosa Beach, a location approximately 80 miles from Florida’s western border with Alabama.
Around 11 a.m., authorities spotted the suspect leaving an apartment building and preparing to enter a vehicle.

After confirming his identity, law enforcement conducted a felony traffic stop and successfully apprehended Flores Caballeros. He was transported to the Walton County Jail, where he remained in custody as of Friday.
Flores Caballeros now awaits extradition to Virginia to face the serious charges against him, including child endangerment and domestic violence.
His arrest highlights growing concerns about the severity of domestic violence cases and child endangerment within immigrant communities.
