On Monday, the Rockland community gathered at Ramapo High School to pay tribute to Dariel Vásquez.

He was an 18-year-old who lost his life while responding to a fire scene in the county.

Vásquez, an assistant at New York State Parks and a recent high school graduate, tragically died on Saturday when a tree fell on him while he was helping extinguish a fire at Jennings Creek.

The community, friends, and family congregated to remember his positive spirit and his relentless commitment.

Dariel Vasquez «was very excited»

Dariel Vasquez had big dreams. He had been accepted to the State University of New York at Buffalo (SUNY Buffalo) and planned to start his studies next year.

Erika De Jesus, Vásquez’s cousin, shared her family’s feelings about the great potential they saw in him and his excitement to embark on this new chapter in his life.

“He was very excited to go to work, he loved what he did. We know he was happy in his last moments,” Erika expressed.

His cousin Mayelin Vásquez highlighted his commitment to the community and his willingness to help others: “He was happy to be part of the community and to help other families.”

Tribute Held in Honor of the Hispanic

The Monsey Fire Department also paid tribute to Dariel Vasquez, CBS News reported.

They displayed a giant American flag in his honor and supported his mother, Miosoti, in moments of deep emotion.

The ceremony culminated at home plate, where friends and family lit candles and released balloons in his memory. TO VIEW GOFUNDME CLICK HERE.

For his coach Landry, it was heartbreaking to return to that place under such sad circumstances. “Every time I look at second base, I’ll think of Dariel,” he stated.
