The United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has ordered Costco to withdraw over 79,000 pounds of butter from the market.
The Kirkland Signature brand product was recalled in Texas.
This was due to a labeling issue related to allergens.
Continental Dairy Facilities Southwest LLC, Costco’s supplier, recalled approximately 46,800 pounds of unsalted butter.

According to the FDA, foods containing common allergens such as milk, eggs, fish, shellfish, tree nuts, peanuts, wheat, soy, and sesame must be clearly labeled.
In this case, the absence of a milk warning in the recalled butter represents a violation of this regulation, which led the agency to classify the recall in Texas as «Class II.»
This indicates that the product could cause temporary or reversible adverse health effects.
Approximately 2,100 boxes of this recalled butter were distributed in Texas.
