Colt Gray, the 14-year-old accused of a high school shooting in Georgia, has requested a jury trial after pleading not guilty to charges of murdering four people.
The teenager waived an arraignment hearing that had been scheduled for November 21.
Gray is accused of killing two classmates and two teachers at Apalachee High School, located in Winder, near Atlanta.
Last week, a Barrow County grand jury indicted him as an adult on 55 charges, including four counts of murder.
Possible Sentences for Colt Gray and Charges Against His Father Colin Gray
As a minor, the maximum sentence Colt Gray could face is life in prison without the possibility of parole.
The grand jury also formally charged his father, Colin Gray, with 29 counts, including involuntary manslaughter and cruelty to minors.
It is alleged that Colin allowed his son to access a firearm despite knowing that Colt posed a danger to others’ safety.
Among the victims of the shooting were teachers Richard Aspinwall, 39, and Cristina Irimie, 53, as well as students Mason Schermerhorn and Christian Angulo, both 14.
Colt Gray’s father has yet to enter a plea of guilty or not guilty.
Authorities claim that Colin gave his son the weapon used in the massacre, despite knowing his mental health had deteriorated.
The investigation revealed that Colt was obsessed with school shooters and had a shrine dedicated to them at home.
The teenager had already been questioned by authorities in 2023 after making a threatening social media post, but there wasn’t enough evidence to arrest him.
Investigators found that Colt Gray meticulously planned the attack, leaving notes with detailed instructions and diagrams of his classroom.
The notes indicated that he planned to kill 26 people and injure 13 others during the shooting.
