Major casinos in states like Nevada, where gambling is legal, attract large crowds.

Many entrepreneurs are aware of this and capitalize on people’s weakness.

In states such as Georgia, Texas and Florida, gambling is legal as long as businesses have a permit.

Illegal gambling bust in Texas

If a business owner does not obtain a gambling license, he could face serious legal consequences — from fines to jail time.

Just a few days ago, a Mexican woman wrote to me on Facebook to tell me about a family problem.

She told me that her partner had become a hardened gambler and that as soon as he left work, he would go to underground casinos.

She told me that such places in Norcross, Georgia look like stores or gas stations from the outside, but in the back, and even in private rooms, they had slot machines.

«Sometimes he has come home empty-handed when he had just been paid at work,» the distressed woman told me.

I explained to her that she could report these illegal gambling operations to the authorities.

She did not have the courage to do so for fear of reprisals from their owners, but she said she would try to talk to her husband and would leave him if he didn’t stop.

I don’t know if she had the courage to do it. However, there was recently a similar situation in Laredo, Texas.

Last week, the Laredo Police Department dealt a severe blow to one of those underground casinos.

Yesterday the press was informed of the raid on a venue that housed illegal slot machines.

Two men who worked there were arrested and charged with multiple serious offenses. More arrests are expected in the coming days.

The men were identified as Miguel Alberto Santes, 29, and Osvaldo Santiago Cabrera, also 29. They confiscated 61 gambling and gaming machines.

The evidence

In the raid, they also found over $27,000 in cash, which shows that it is a profitable business.

The authorities did not specify whether there were customers inside at the time of the bust. Now there is one less business scamming our community.

In the end, people gamble because they want to, so I doubt very much that they will manage to put an end to it.
