Mrs. Christin Leann Martinez passed away on Thursday, May 16, 2024, when she went out to move her car in the rain.
Suddenly, a leafy tree, pushed by wind gusts up to one hundred miles per hour, fell onto Christin Leann Martinez’s car.
The death of 31-year-old Christin Leann Martinez has deeply saddened Houston’s Hispanic community due to the unexpected nature of the tragedy.

Christin Leann Martínez died under the fury of the storm
According to the Houston Fire Department (HFD), Christin Leann Martinez left her home at exactly 6:30 PM.
The Hispanic mother lived with her family at the intersection of Avenue O and West Hedrick Street, in the densely populated Hispanic neighborhood of Magnolia Park.
Just as the young mother left her house, the storm was at its most intense, with furious wind and heavy rainfall.
Mrs. Christin Leann Martinez didn’t even manage to move her car before the uprooted tree fell onto the roof, killing her.
The community comes together to help the Martínez family
Hundreds, if not thousands, of people have been moved by the tragedy of the young Hispanic mother, Christin Leann Martinez, in Houston.
Perfect Choice BBQ restaurant, located at 4474 Galveston Road, will host a food sale with dishes priced at $12 to support the woman’s family.
The food sale for Christin will take place next Saturday, May 25, 2024, from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM.
Christin Leann Martinez was the loving mother of four children aged 12, 10, 8, and 1, who will now be cared for by their father, Isaac Martinez.
“She was known for her heart of gold”
Judy Avila, Isaac Martinez’s aunt, has opened the «Please help support the Martinez family» account to assist with expenses following the death of Christin Leann Martinez.
«Christin and Isaac were high school sweethearts and had been together for 15 years,» Judy Avila shared about Christin Leann Martinez and her husband.
According to Judy Avila, the young mother, Christin Leann Martinez, «had a witty sense of humor and was extremely funny.»
The Hispanic woman «was known for her heart of gold, had a passion for helping others, and showed her love through kindness and acts of service,» concludes the plea for help.
Federal assistance is already in Houston for the victims
While the Houston community mourns the death of Mrs. Christin Leann Martinez, the city continues to struggle to recover.
Officials from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) have arrived in Houston, Texas to assist the community.
A total of 400 FEMA officials are currently in the so-called Special City, offering assistance to individuals in need of repairing damages.
As of the time of writing this story, 48,000 people have applied for financial assistance from FEMA, and a total of one million dollars has already been granted to those affected.
Thousands of people remain without electricity
As of Wednesday, May 22, 2024, there were still 71,000 people without electricity in their homes following the passage of the brutal storm.
Most of these individuals affected by the rain and tornado, who are now facing extreme heat, are located in the north and northwest of Harris County.
According to CenterPoint Energy, the company that distributes electricity in Houston, they expect to restore service to those affected by no later than Thursday, May 23, 2024.
Another issue is the hundreds of traffic lights that are still not functioning, plunging Houston into a city-wide chaos of very slow traffic.
