Joel is Cuban. In Cuba, he was lucky that when he started, the government had no money and started setting up hotels. This gave him the opportunity to work with a chef who had great recognition and that helped him to learn about cooking and related topics.

To leave Cuba, he first embarked to Mexico, but his wife did not make this first trip because she wanted to know how safe it would be. When he became more aware of the situation and had better knowledge, he went for her.

From Mexico, he went to the U.S. This was with 4 friends and their spouses. It took them a month and a half to reach the U.S. The hardest part, according to Joel, was not to think and just leave Cuba. This option was the best due to certain laws.

Joel says he was 100% sure that he had to leave Cuba, so much so that for him it was preferable to die trying than to stay on the island.

His work has always been involved in cooking. He has never done anything else. Something important he says is that being known as the chef of the stars isn’t necessarily because he serves celebrities.

Rather, it’s because he makes anyone he serves feel like one, because that’s what motivates him, making people feel good.

Thanks to people, when he arrived in Miami he didn’t have to look for a job, because he already had more than 20 years of experience as a chef.

Six months after being in Miami, a customer told him that he was about to open a restaurant and asked if he would be interested in working there; the deal was that Joel would bring the experience and the other the administration.

They moved to Georgia. This was because a business was being offered to them by some people. The deal was similar to the past, they would put up the goods and they the experience and administration this time.

They were given a six-month deadline to see how it evolved. It turned out well, and today that business has been operating for 10 years.

Although things were going well, something was on Joel’s mind. The business wasn’t completely his own. He wanted things to be his.

The pandemic made it possible for him to access an idea in his mind. Because the restaurant had to close for two months due to it, people called Joel to take out their orders.

Because of the above, he realized that he could actually have his own business. He already had everything to achieve it. He called his accountant and told him what he had to do to set up his company.

Chef Joel’s concept was suitable for the pandemic: you can’t go to a restaurant, but he can go to you. He began to sell his brand: The Chef of the Stars.

Meeting all the health standards of that time, he started this business that turned out quite well and pleased his wholesale customers to his surprise.

The concept for him is to help. He advises on food, organization, menu selection, drinks, etc. This can be done for restaurants or for individuals in general. He travels everywhere he is required. And he adores his job.
