  • Epicurean Butter is recalling hundreds of tubs from stores.
  • The butter recall was issued because it could be contaminated with a bacteria.
  • They urged the public not to consume the product, but to return it to the establishment where it was bought.

Another food product recall has been announced. Epicurean Butter, based in Colorado, ordered the recall of hundreds of tubs of its «Wegmans Lemon Dill Finishing Butter» due to possible bacterial contamination, according to the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA,).

Epicurean Butter said in a notice that it was recalling its 3.5-ounce containers of the finishing butter after its frozen dill supplier, SubHerb Farms, alerted the company that a dozen batches have the potential to be contaminated with the bacteria Listeria monocytogenes, an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems, shared CNN.

SubHerbs detected the potential contamination based on a test from one of the supplier’s food manufacturing customers in Canada that used the ingredient in one of its finished products, the statement explained. However, no illnesses had been reported, at least as of Friday, linked to the consumption of that dill butter.

«Although healthy people may experience only short-term symptoms, such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea, Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women,» the announcement explains.

The recalled containers were distributed in Wegmans Food Markets stores located in New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maryland, Massachusetts, Virginia, North Carolina and Washington DC, said the statement quoted by CNN.

Twelve batches of the product containing more than 1,000 containers were included in the recall. The item is sold in a black plastic wrapper with a Wegmans label on the sides and lid. Authorities urge customers who purchased product from these lots «to return them to the place of purchase for a full refund,» the statement said.
