Joshua Fager has beaten death after being bitten by a brown recluse spider.
The 14-year-old Colombian survived but now faces the challenge of recovering from the potent venom’s effects and regaining full mobility.
The Fager family was on vacation, and Joshua was enjoying his day at a pool when the spider bit his arm.
The boy thought a bee had stung him and didn’t pay much attention to the injury until the venom started taking its toll.
Joshua Fager Clinically Died Four Times
«I started feeling dizzy and like I was falling asleep,» Joshua recalled during an interview on Univision’s Primer Impacto.
Within seconds, the symptoms worsened. «My entire arm started hurting, I felt like I couldn’t breathe, and I was paralyzed.»

Joshua was taken to the hospital, and according to Primer Impacto, the diagnosis was not encouraging. His chances of survival were slim.
Clinically he died four times, but the doctors revived him.
The reason for this diagnosis, a specialist explained to Primer Impacto, is that the brown recluse spider venom is often deadly.
The toxin, the expert noted, causes necrosis and significant vascular or even central nervous system damage.
«My lungs were filled with blood, they turned me over, I vomited blood, they took out the tube and put it back in,» Joshua recalled how he was brought back to life.
The family’s anguish lasted for weeks; Joshua remained in a coma, his life dependent on machines.
Finally, a miracle occurred, and Joshua woke up. The Fagers found some peace, but it was short-lived.
Because of the spider bite, Joshua had lost mobility in half of his body and was fighting a fungus in his intestines.
«They told me I had a fungus in my blood and intestines, so I have to take very expensive medication,» the boy said.
But his family doesn’t give up. His mother, Yazmín Fager, has been seeking financial aid to ensure they don’t run out of the necessary medication.
«Posaconazole and an antifungal,» are the medications Joshua Fager needs to stay healthy.
«They basically kill the fungus,» Joshua assured during the interview.
The family’s resources have run out, and now they need everyone’s support to prevent Joshua’s health from deteriorating.
