- Trump and Harris wrongly mentioned.
- Crucial support from Barack Obama.
US President Joe Biden on Thursday dismissed growing calls for him to end his re-election campaign ahead of the November election.
This, expressing his firm confidence in his ability to defeat former President Donald Trump once again.
«I beat him once and I’ll do it again,» he said forcefully during a long-awaited press conference.
Biden, looking resolute, stressed that it is not «unusual» for there to be doubts about his candidacy at this stage of the presidential race, and said there is still a «long way» to go before the election.
THE PRESIDENT IS WORRIED AFTER THE DEBATE
The highly anticipated news conference focused on the performance of the president, who has recently faced questions about his ability to govern for another four years.
This is especially true after the controversial debate against Trump on June 27, according to Efe.
However, the conference did not get off to a good start for Biden, as he made a mistake when he mistakenly called his vice president, Kamala Harris, “Trump.”
«I would not have chosen Vice President Trump as my vice president if I believed she was not qualified to be president,» Biden said.
BIDEN’S LATEST LAPSE
The president was also questioned about another recent lapse, in which he referred to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky as «Putin» during a public event.
Visibly upset, Biden played down the mistake and defended his performance: «Have you seen a more successful summit? I was talking about Putin and I said ‘Putin’, no, sorry, Zelensky.»
Biden highlighted the success of the recent NATO summit in Washington, saying it was one of the most successful he has participated in for a long time.
«I know it sounds too selfish, but other leaders, heads of state, when they thank me, say: The reason we are together is because of Biden,» he added firmly.
Biden’s performance in the debate against Trump was perceived as weak, with a hoarse voice and difficulty finishing some sentences.
The campaign had proposed holding the debate months earlier than usual, in an effort to reassure voters concerned about Biden’s 81 years.
However, the result was the opposite, and both legislators from his party and prestigious media began to question whether he would be able to withstand the rigors of another term.
Despite the criticism, Biden has made it clear that he has no plans to withdraw from the campaign.
Influential figures in the Democratic Party, such as former President Barack Obama (2009-2017), have shown their unconditional support for Biden, closing ranks around his candidacy.
At 81, Biden is the oldest president in US history and the first octogenarian to occupy the White House.
If he defeats Trump in the November 5 election and serves a second full term, he would leave power at 86 years old.
This fact has been used by the Republican Party to raise the possibility that voting for Biden would actually be choosing Harris.
