The Georgia primaries were a crucial battle
The 2024 presidential contest has reached a pivotal moment that solidifies the rematch between Biden and Trump in the general election.
On the eve of Tuesday’s primaries, Trump acknowledged that Biden would be the Democratic candidate, while launching a new attack on the president’s age.
Meanwhile, Biden focused much of his attention on Trump, whom he described as a serious threat to democracy during a campaign stop in New Hampshire.
Georgia leads the primaries of four states being held Tuesday, March 12, according to The Associated Press.
Georgia is a crucial battleground state
Georgia was a crucial battleground in the last presidential election, according to the AP.
It was so close that Trump is facing charges there for his attempt to «find 11,780 votes» and overturn Biden’s victory.
However, while both candidates seek to project strength in the swing state, Biden and Trump both have evident flaws.
Trump is facing 91 criminal charges in four cases involving his handling of classified documents and his attempt to overturn the 2020 elections, among other alleged offenses.
Challenges and controversies in the elections
Biden, at 81 years old, works to assure a skeptical electorate that he is still physically and mentally capable of excelling in the most important job in the world.
Ahead of Tuesday’s vote, a cluster of signs in Seattle urged primary participants to vote «uncompromisingly.»
Some posters read: «Over 30,000 dead. Vote for a ceasefire before Tuesday 3/12,» according to The Washington Post.
It’s more or less the same in Georgia, where local politicians and religious leaders are pressing Biden to call for a ceasefire in Gaza.
Expectations and campaign strategies
Biden entered Tuesday’s primaries with 102 delegates fewer than the 1,968 needed to formally become the presumptive nominee of the Democratic Party.
On the other hand, Trump is on track to reach his magic number, creating significant tension and controversy.
As of Sunday, March 10, Trump was 137 delegates short of the 1,215 needed to win the Republican nomination.
With a strong performance on Tuesday, Trump could sweep all delegates in Georgia, Mississippi and Washington, according to The Associated Press.
A lasting impact on the history of the United States
Furthermore, Hawaii allocates delegates proportionally, so other candidates could win some, even with a small share of the vote.
Not certain of reaching their goal, Trump’s campaign hadn’t planned a grand victory party as they did last week, noted The Associated Press.
This is in contrast to last week when hundreds gathered at his Mar-a-Lago club for a Super Tuesday celebration with drinks and hors d’oeuvres.
The decisions made at the ballot box will have a lasting impact on the course of United States history and its role in the world, asserts The Washington Post.
