The presidential nominees are official
Georgia proved crucial for Biden, providing him with the necessary delegates to secure the Democratic nomination.
On the other hand, Trump surpassed the necessary threshold in Washington to once again become the Republican presidential nominee.
Despite mathematically clinching their respective nominations for the White House, both Biden and Trump will have to wait for their party conventions.
This is where they will officially be named as candidates for the presidential election in November.
Waiting for the party conventions
The Republican and Democratic conventions are scheduled for July and August, respectively.
The Republican convention will take place in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, from July 15 to 18, while the Democratic convention will be held in Chicago, Illinois, from August 19 to 22.
Despite lacking the traditional shine of Super Tuesday, last Tuesday’s primaries were a significant moment in the American electoral process.
Voting took place in several states, with victories for Biden and Trump in Georgia, Mississippi and Washington.
It’s a Biden and Trump rematch
Democrats also held primaries in the Northern Mariana Islands, while Republicans gathered in Hawaii to vote in caucuses or neighborhood assemblies, whose results are still pending.
The significance of the primaries in Georgia lies in its role as one of the six key states that will decide the outcome in November.
Moreover, Georgia is a state where independent voters or those with more moderate views are crucial, making it a prime target for both candidates.
With Biden and Trump winning the needed delegates, an intense eight-month election campaign — that is expected to be particularly contentious — begins
Biden points out Trump as a threat
Both candidates will come out swinging against their opponent in an attempt to win over the electorate.
Upon securing the Democratic nomination, Biden issued a statement thanking voters for their support and warning about what he perceives as the threat posed by Trump.
According to EFE the current U.S. President stated that «the threat Trump poses is greater than ever.”
Biden also accused Trump of running a «campaign of resentment, revenge, and retribution that threatens the very idea of America.»

For his part, Trump, in a video released after his victory in Washington, saying it was «a great day of victory.»
«But now we have to get back to work because we have the worst president in the history of our country. His name is Joe Biden, sometimes called corrupt Biden, and he must be defeated,» he continued.
He emphasized the importance of the November election, calling it «the most important vote they will ever cast.»
However, both candidates will face challenges on the road to the election. Trump faces several lawsuits and criminal charges, while Biden will have to address concerns about his age.
