Parents were seen crying over their baby who was killed by Russian attacks in Ukraine. Vladimir Putin’s government is being accused of ignoring the agreed upon ceasefire and Russians have continued invading several towns.

Images showed mother, Marina Yatsko, and her partner, Fedor, crying over the body of their 18-month-old baby in a hospital ward in Mariupol. Mariupol is just one of the cities besieged by Russian troops, The Sun reported on Saturday, March 5. The outlet added that some 351 civilians have been killed in Ukraine since the invasion began on February 24 and another 707 have been injured, a UN monitoring mission said yesterday.

According to the UN office report quoted by The Sun, most of the deaths were due to intense shelling and artillery fire on densely populated civilian areas. It is feared that the real number of victims is «considerably higher.»

Sky News reported that Marina Yatso was seen collapsing in the arms of her boyfriend, Fedor, while screaming, «Why, why, why?» after the doctors were unable to save their son. He had been hit in the head by a piece of shrapnel during the Russian attacks.

Baby’s house was bombed by Russian troops

Baby Kirill Yatsko was fatally injured after his home in the southern Ukrainian port city of Mariupol was bombed during the ongoing Russian invasion. A video captured his mother and her boyfriend rushing into a hospital with the unconscious little boy.

Doctors placed an oxygen mask on his face and massaged his chest while his heart seemed to have stopped. Then they used a defibrillator on him. Tragically, they couldn’t save him and a doctor knelt on the side of the room, staring at the floor, trying to process what he had just witnessed, Sky News described.

Outside, in the corridor, Marina was inconsolable. She got up, yelled, «Why, why, why,» and went to her boyfriend. Seeing how distraught she was, he grabbed her and held her while she cried on his shoulder. Afterward, Marina and Fedor went inside to see Kirill, whose body is wrapped in a blanket. Conditions at the hospital are bleak, staff said, as the Russian attack on the besieged city continued. «We continue to work without electricity and without heat,» commented Dr. Evgeniy Dubrov. «We have worked for more than a week without a break,» he added sadly.

In addition to the injured residents, the military are also being admitted to the hospital for treatment. The Russian Defense Ministry said on Saturday that it had agreed to evacuation routes for Mariupol and the eastern city of Volnovakha with Ukrainian forces. But the attacks continued in both areas, Ukrainian officials later said, and the planned evacuation of civilians was cancelled, the Sky News report noted.

The Russians did not respect the ceasefire

Mayor Boichenko Vadym said that thousands of residents have been injured and rescuers are having difficulty finding the dead due to continued Russian airstrikes. On Saturday, Mariupol leaders declared that Vladimir Putin’s forces had violated a ceasefire in the shattered city, just hours after agreeing to allow civilians to flee.

According to The Sun, Russia said it was stopping its shelling on the strategic port of Mariupol and the eastern city of Volnovakha but opened fire an hour later, sending people running for cover. The Kremlin then accused the Ukrainians of preventing the refugees from leaving, which was dismissed as false by the military and the city authorities. On Saturday night, the UK Ministry of Defense denounced the cynical Russian ploy. He said Russia’s proposed ceasefire was «likely an attempt to deflect international condemnation while readjusting its forces for new offensive activity.»

The «flagrant violation» of the ceasefire

An updated report from the Defense Ministry’s intelligence services added the following: «By accusing Ukraine of breaking the agreement, Russia is probably trying to shift responsibility for current and future civilian casualties in the city.» Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry said Russia had committed a «flagrant violation» of its agreement to open humanitarian corridors.

«The ongoing bombardment makes it impossible to open humanitarian corridors for the safe evacuation of civilians, the delivery of medicine (and) food,» the ministry tweeted. The International Committee of the Red Cross called Saturday’s scenes in Mariupol «heartbreaking.»
