Hobbs’ plans aim to strengthen border surveillance to ensure security and secure necessary resources for Arizona in this area.
According to Agencia EFE, Hobbs stated that her focus would be on combating drug trafficking. «This crisis is happening right now, and it requires immediate action,» she emphasized.
«Using the National Guard helps increase surveillance at the border and provides essential assistance to other agencies,» Hobbs added.
She highlighted that the Security Task Force has successfully seized 6 million fentanyl pills and 1,400 pounds of heroin and cocaine.
Not a Measure Against Immigrants?
Katie Hobbs clarified that National Guard members do not arrest undocumented immigrants but assist in detecting drug shipments.
«Just as we’ve worked with the current administration, we’ll work with the next one if it means receiving resources and more personnel to enhance border security,» said the governor.
The Arizona governor declined to share her stance on the mass deportations Trump’s administration plans to initiate.
Hobbs stated it’s essential first to understand how these measures will be implemented before voicing her opinion. HERE IS THE INTERVIEW.
