A generous check may be on the way for many US residents. A new universal basic income (UBI) program worth $1,000 a month is scheduled to launch in the coming days Baltimore, Maryland according to The Sun.
Residents of the city of Baltimore, Maryland will be able to start applying for direct payments that are part of a new program that will give low-income families cash for two years totaling about $24,000.
Who can apply for the program?
The program, known as Under the Baltimore Young Families Success Fund (BYFSF), will select 200 young parents to receive a $1,000 monthly check for 24 months.
In order to apply for financial aid, it is essential to be between 18 and 24 years old, be biological, adoptive or guardian parents and have total or partial care responsibilities for their children. Baltimore will begin accepting applications for the program on May 2 and it will remain open through Monday, May 9. Under the guaranteed income program, the city “is collaborating with the local nonprofit CASH Campaign of Maryland, which helps low-income Americans,” The Sun reported.

For example, Ann Arbor Michigan recently approved a UBI program, which will send 100 low-income families $500 monthly checks for three years. Similarly, starting on Monday, April 25, some 5,000 Chicago residents will be able to request monthly payments of $500 for a year to receive a total of $6,000.
