The former Colombian Minister of Finance, José Manuel Restrepo, who currently serves as rector of the EIA University, is in mourning.

The rector of the former Antioquia School of Engineering shared heartbreaking news on the afternoon of Sunday, September 17.

He reported that his 18-year-old niece, Ana María Serrano Céspedes — who was a medical student in Mexico — had been a victim of femicide.

Shocked by this tragedy, Restrepo expressed his pain through social media, denouncing the act as despicable.

José Manuel Restrepo, former minister of Colombia, took to X (formerly known as Twitter).

He shared a heartfelt message about the murder of his beloved niece, in addition to demanding justice in the case.

In another post, he added a photograph of his late niece, writing more about his painful loss.

This terrible tragedy for Ana María’s family has shocked the Hispanic community.

«NEVER, NEVER did I think I could be so close to an act as brutal as it is despicable as FEMICIDE,» Restrepo wrote.

«Today, with pain in my heart and soul, I cannot accept remaining silent while these types of acts continue anywhere in the world,» he said.

«On this occasion it happened to my niece Ana María Serrano Céspedes in Mexico,» tweeted the former minister of Colombia.

«And the only thing we want is #JusticiaParaAnaMaria #NiUnaMas,» he concluded his first message regarding the murder of his niece.

In the other post he shared a photo of the young girl, who was barely 18 years old, and was studying medicine.

«Ana María deserved to live many years, to be a cardiologist, to eventually have a family,» tweeted José Manuel Restrepo.

«Radiate her intelligence, creativity, vivacity, joy and love to society,» he continued.

«We will always remember you with love and affection Nana (the nickname her family called her),» he concluded his message.

A few days ago, the young woman’s mother, María Ximena Céspedes, had reported the disappearance of her daughter in Mexico.

According to El Tiempo, Ana María was kidnapped by her ex-boyfriend, Alan Gil Romero.

However, the news became even more devastating when the student’s lifeless body was found on September 12.

Reports indicate that her remains were found at her home, located in Atizapán, Mexico.

The Mexican authorities immediately launched an investigation into the femicide, according to El Tiempo.

On September 17, the Attorney General’s Office of the State of Mexico announced the arrest of Allan «N» as the suspected killer.

He was arrested shortly after the crime and transferred to the Juan Fernández Albarrán Preventive and Social Readaptation Center in Tlalnepantla.

According to reports, a judge is expected to determine the legal status of Allan «N» in the next few hours.

The grieving mother, María Ximena Céspedes, made a fervent plea to the Mexican authorities after her daughter’s murder.

She shared the video on Instagram: «A single request, justice.  He didn’t just take my girl from us…»

«…but also freedom and our tranquillity. We cannot return to our house and we fear for our safety,» she said.

«Ana Maria rest in peace, but all of us who knew her will not. Justice for Ana María,» she finished.
