- Ayotzinapa Case Remains Unsolved
President López Obrador has requested the FGR to summon Peña Nieto to testify regarding the 2014 Ayotzinapa case.
He asked that the former president be summoned only «if there are sufficient elements» that implicate him in the disappearance of the 43 students.
López Obrador clarified that the final decision on the summons depends exclusively on the Attorney General’s Office.
In his morning conference, he criticized Tomás Zerón for now blaming Peña Nieto for the official version of the case.
New Revelations in the Ayotzinapa Investigation
Zerón, a former security official, declared from Israel, accusing Peña of creating the «historical truth» to close the case.
He stated that this version was constructed in meetings at Los Pinos with high-ranking officials from the previous government.
Zerón said that he and Murillo Karam were instructed to present the official version to the media.
According to Zerón, that version maintained that the 43 students were killed and incinerated in a landfill in Cocula.
The former official denied any personal responsibility in the case, claiming to be merely a spokesperson for the government.
López Obrador denied protecting former president Peña Nieto, assuring that he has no complicity with anyone involved.
He affirmed that he would not use «scapegoats» or resort to cover-up practices, as in previous governments.
He suggested that Zerón return to Mexico from Israel to testify and face his potential responsibility in the case.
He recalled that the Ayotzinapa case has been unresolved for nearly ten years, with criticism for the lack of significant progress.
On September 26, 2014, 43 students disappeared while they were heading to Mexico City to protest.
This case continues to be a controversial topic during López Obrador’s administration, with unfulfilled demands for justice.
The parents of the disappeared have accused López Obrador of not fulfilling his electoral promise to clarify the case.
