During his latest State of the Union address, Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador reiterated the need for the United States to endorse an immigration plan.
The Mexican president does not include «walls» or «militarization» on the borders, but rather investments in Latin America.
In his speech from the Zócalo in Mexico City, he emphasized the importance of addressing the causes of migration, supporting countries with high levels of poverty in the region.
AMLO highlighted that his government has exported social programs such as Sembrando Vida and Jóvenes Construyendo el Futuro to countries such as Guatemala, Honduras, and El Salvador.
WHAT ELSE DID AMLO PROPOSE?

As well as Haiti, Venezuela, Colombia, Belize and Cuba, as part of an effort to curb migration in their places of origin.
These initiatives, according to the president, represent a better solution than the construction of walls or the militarization of borders, practices that he has consistently criticized.

Democratic candidate Kamala Harris has also highlighted the issue, advocating stricter measures at the border.
López Obrador also took the opportunity to reveal that daily arrests at the border have decreased by more than 70% since December, according to Efe.
However, the president said that irregular migration in Mexico has increased significantly in the last year.
Faced with this situation, AMLO insisted that the migration phenomenon must be addressed by addressing the causes of poverty in Central America and the Caribbean.
