During the National Hispanic Heritage Month celebrations, it’s a good time to remember an achievement that fills us with pride.

Just this past April, TIME magazine chose the 100 most influential people, and among them are seven Latinos.

This exclusive list includes actresses Salma Hayek (Mexico) and Zoe Saldaña, who was born in the United States but has Dominican roots.

Also on the list are Chilean actor Pedro Pascal, Argentine footballer Lionel Messi, and Mexican activist María Herrera Magdaleno, among others.

Among the Latino leaders of 2023 is Mexican actress and producer Salma Hayek, born in Coatzacoalcos, Veracruz.

The star of the telenovela «Teresa» and the movie «El callejón de los milagros» began her Hollywood career at the age of 25.

It didn’t take long for her to shine in films like «Desperado,» «From Dusk Till Dawn,» and «Wild Wild West.»

Her friend, actress Penélope Cruz, said that Salma is a strong but sensitive person who knows how to read people very well.

On this list, it was only fitting to include what many consider to be the greatest footballer of all time, even surpassing Pelé and Maradona: Lionel Messi.

Just last December, he won his first World Cup with the Argentine national team after defeating France in an unforgettable match.

With Barcelona, he won almost everything he could win, and right now, he’s in a new phase with Inter Miami.

Tennis star Roger Federer had nothing but praise for him: «Messi can inspire future generations,» he said.

«Pedro Pascal is amazing,» said actress Sarah Paulson of the actor, also describing him as «powerful, moving, and hilarious.»

Originally from Santiago, Chile, and a naturalized American citizen, the theater director seems to have a magic touch.

His roles in «Game of Thrones,» «The Mandalorian,» and recently «The Last of Us» catapulted him to fame.

In his most recent project, he shared the screen with renowned actor Ethan Hawke in the short film «Extraña forma de vida» directed by Pedro Almodóvar.

As mentioned earlier, actress and model Zoe Saldaña was born in the United States, but her roots are in the Dominican Republic.

Mila Kunis commented that she is a pioneer for women and people of color in Hollywood.

«But I value her more for her eternal friendship, for the inspiration she provides as a mother and as a companion,» she said.

Many remember her for her role as Gamora in the «Guardians of the Galaxy» trilogy and her participation in «Avatar.»

A defender of human rights, ‘Doña Mary’ founded a national network of local collectives in 2014 to educate families on how to investigate disappearances.

At 73 years old, María sued the Mexican state before the Inter-American Court of Human Rights last November for not investigating cases.

Journalist Ciara Nugent acknowledged María Herrera Magdaleno’s work and leadership and encouraged her to continue.
