Leah Kern offers her recommendations for satisfying snacks you can find at the popular store. The dietitian pointed out that she recommends buying apples, accompanied by crackers with cheese and salami. This snack is recommended for people who are active and have a busy life. This mini-meal gives them all the carbohydrates, proteins and fats the body needs.

“From a gentle-nutrition standpoint, this meal includes carbohydrates (rice cake), fat (hazelnut-chocolate spread), and fiber (banana slices). If you want to make this snack have more staying power, you could add some protein with a cup of milk on the side,” Leah Kern pointed out to Insider.

On busy days?

The dietitian reported that another of the snacks she adds to her Trader Joe’s shopping list is dried fruit and a bag of nuts. This is great when you go on long-distance hiking trips and want to get a healthy and easy-to-digest source of carbohydrates. Likewise, she pointed out that the fruit provides the sugar that your body needs.

“When I go on long-distance hiking trips, I bring these fruit leathers. They offer a source of simple carbohydrates, which are easily digestible and give you a quick blood-sugar spike for accessible energy. The fat and protein from the nuts help to slow the absorption of the sugar from the fruit leather into the bloodstream, resulting in more sustained energy and fullness.» Filed Under: Trader Joe’s Snacks

Another of the snacks that Kern recommends are rice cakes. The young dietician said that she eats them with bananas, peanut butter or hazelnuts and a cup of oatmeal or almond milk to balance it out. This way, she’s able to get enough energy and the necessary sugars and proteins for the day.

“From a soft nutrition standpoint, this meal includes carbohydrates (rice cake), fats (chocolate hazelnut spread), and fiber (banana slices). If you want this snack to have more staying power, you can add a bit of protein with a cup of milk on the side.» Filed Under: Trader Joe’s Snacks

Nuts, chocolate and a glass of milk?

Kern also pointed out that chocolate chips are a perfect snack when you want simple carbohydrates and the best is to accompany them with nuts that offer you the proteins and fats that your body needs. In addition, it should be taken into account that chocolate chips offer a little sugar too.

“Chocolate chips are a source of simple carbohydrates (in the form of sugar) and walnuts offer protein and fat. When eating these together, the protein and fat from the walnuts help to slow the absorption of the sugar from the chocolate chips into your bloodstream,” Leah Kern wrote in Insider.

Clif Bars?

The last thing she mentioned are the famous Clif bars that have become one of everyone’s favorite snacks. The dietitian pointed out that these bars are even better if you add nut butter, which provides the proteins and fats that you need.

“These bars do make for great snacks and offer a mix of carbohydrates, protein, and fat all on their own — but if you want to feel fuller for longer, try dunking the bar in nut butter. Nut butter adds protein and fat, which help to slow the absorption of the Clif bar’s carbohydrates into your bloodstream,» said Kern.
