If one day you visit Qatar or a restaurant with dishes from this country, don’t hesitate to order saloona, a typical and very nutritious dish which is made from spiced meat and vegetable broth. This recipe could be a bit spicy for some palates but it is one of the most popular.

Saloona is made with vegetables such as tomatoes, eggplant, carrots and potatoes. As a complement, some people prefer to include rice, but broth and chicken are also eaten without other types of complements.

The typical dish known as Madhruba is consumed, mainly, during the Ramadan celebrations. It is a version of porridge, which combines ingredients such as rice, milk, butter and cardamom until it becomes a kind of milkshake that stands out for its rich flavor and nutrients.

Madhruba is made mainly from rice, milk and butter, but this can vary, since in many Qatari dishes meat is added and mashed beans are a common side.

Thareed

Thareed is another of the dishes eaten during Ramadan, and it is similar to stew, although in some places it is known as the ‘Arab lasagna’. It is made with ingredients such as carrot, chicken, lamb and tomato sauce.

Thareed is a bit different from lasagna because it contains beans, onions and potatoes, as well as meat such as chicken or lamb. At the end, the entire mixture is placed on a bed of bread that absorbs all the juices and results in an exquisite delicacy.

Harees, or harissa, is an Arab recipe that combines wheat with meat, the consistency of which will vary and may resemble that of porridge or a dumpling.

Harees is a nutrient-rich dish that is good for your health. In most Muslim communities, this recipe is made during iftar, the nightly meal for breaking the fast during Ramadan.
