- Find out where and who could get the money.
More and more states are stepping forward to provide financial aid or some kind of relief to their residents. One of them is Pennsylvania, where eligible residents could receive a check for up to $2,000.
Governor Tom Wolf has proposed using some of the unspent money from President Joe Biden’s American Rescue Plan to send direct payments of up to $2,000 to state residents whose income is $80,000 or less, according to BGR.
Who will receive the $2,000 checks?
“The cost of everything from gas to groceries is rising, and for Pennsylvanians living paycheck to paycheck that can mean painful decisions,” Governor Wolf said, according to a press release from his office.
“Pennsylvanians deserve to be supported and the opportunity to thrive. Yet my Republican colleagues are sitting on more than $2 billion of support that will need to be returned to the federal government if they don’t pass a plan, “said the governor. Filed As: $2,000 payment.
Some might get a smaller check
As mentioned above, under the Pennsylvania Opportunity Plan, households whose annual income is $80,000 or less would receive a one-time $2,000 check, according to The Sun.
However, other households with incomes between $50,000 and $80,000 would receive a one-time payment of $1,500, KDKA reported. “Working families are under pressure,” Wolf said at a recent news conference. Filed As: $2,000 payment.
Money is at risk
Governor Wolf’s proposal seeks to use $500 million of the $2 billion in federal dollars left over from the American Rescue Plan of the state to send the cash to eligible state residents.
However, the state must hurry to accept the governor’s proposal because if they do not make a decision on whether or not to spend the money from the Rescue Plan before December 31, 2024, the funds will have to be returned to the federal government. Filed As: $2,000 payment.
