13 immigrants tortured and burned by cartels rescued on the Mexican border

Authorities rescued 13 tortured immigrants on June 11 from a residence between Chihuahua and New Mexico.

Enrique Rodríguez, head of information for the Chihuahua State Prosecutor’s Office, detailed the conditions these people faced.

«These migrants had severe burns on their skin,» Rodríguez explained to Univision Noticias.

«They heated objects, like spoons and other metal items, and pressed them against their bodies.»

The official statement detailed that the immigrants suffered beatings, torture, and sexual assault by the criminal organization.

The Chihuahua State Prosecutor’s Office reported that of those rescued, 9 were from Guatemala, 2 from El Salvador, and 2 from Honduras.

Of the 13 affected, 4 required hospitalization due to the severity of their injuries.

Reports reveal they had bruises, burns, and fractured ribs due to the mistreatment they endured.

It was confirmed that the women were victims of sexual assault, in addition to not receiving adequate food or access to water.

Rodríguez identified 5 cartels responsible for the kidnapping and extortion of immigrants.

These cartels are La Línea, Los Aztecas, La Empresa, Los Artistas Asesinos (known as AA), and Mexiclex.

6 individuals were arrested in connection to the case, facing charges of aggravated kidnapping.
